Never been to Las Vegas? Still deciding if its the right vacation destination for you? There is so, so much to do in Las Vegas - and casino gambling is only one of the options available! The following is a breakdown of a few of the major activities enjoyed by the millions of Las Vegas tourists each year.
Gamble
Of course! If you’re over 21, gambling is probably one of the main reasons (if not THE reason) why you decided to make a trip to Las Vegas in the first place. No matter what time of day or night, or what season of the year, there will always, always be plenty of places to gamble. Most casino games and casino floors are largely the same – huge cavernous rooms filled with rows upon rows of slot machines and table games. Small differences (and occasionally choices) may vary from location to location. Most larger casinos in Las Vegas (especially those which are part of resorts), will feature a casino loyalty program to keep visitors coming back to that one particular casino. Themes and décor, minimum bids, clientele and other factors determine the nature of the casino, but the games themselves remain the same.
Go Shopping
Shopping in Las Vegas is different than anywhere else! Particularly in the resorts, shopping can be a truly over-the-top experience. Malls – if you can even call them that – are as much entertainment and theme park as they are shopping center. As many resort malls are based on the theme of their home resort, visitors are treated to the canals of Venice, the bazaars of the Middle East, the Forum of ancient Rome, and even a promenade of bygone Hollywood. The stores themselves are almost always upscale (and expensive), with well-known chains represented. However, the shopping experience of Vegas makes all the difference.
Dine Out
There are so many restaurants in Las Vegas! As one of the restaurant capitals of the world, nearly every possible kind of food option is available. Plus, an abundance of celebrity chefs have outposts here, where they test new food ideas, and even make appearances. Buffets have become a Las Vegas staple, though the days of the inexpensive buffet have largely gone away. Everything from fine dining to casual chain restaurants to fast food and food courts are abundant throughout the city.
See a Show
“The Vegas Show” is a special kind of stage production that is - very specific to Las Vegas. It is a glitzy, glamorous, and special-effect-filled event featuring bright lights, lavish sets, and the famous Las Vegas showgirls. Of course, Las Vegas hosts other kind of shows too, in the various venues both on and off resort properties. Unlike most aspects of a Vegas vacation, shows require advanced planning. Some shows are very popular and tickets must be purchased well in advance.
Swim
Swimming pools and related water activities are a natural extension of a resort. Resort “water play centers” can be as small as a single pool or as large as an entire water park. For many visiting Las Vegas, the quality of their resorts swimming pool can make or break their vacation experience. Visitors can spend their entire vacation swimming, sun-tanning, or lounging around their resorts pool area. And this includes sipping a poolside Pina Colada. Las Vegas has some of the world’s best pools.
Enjoy a Spa Treatment
On par with resorts’ pool facilities is their oftentimes extraordinary spa facilities. Like pools, the facilities vary widely depending on the resort, but often include all kinds of massage and body treatment options, saunas and steams rooms, fitness equipment and more. Spa use is popular with gamblers, and can be expensive for certain treatments.
Get Married
Looking to tie the knot? In Las Vegas, weddings can run the gamut of elaborate festivities in lavish ballrooms to themed weddings (say “I Do” dressed as Scarlet and Rhett!) to last-minute impromptus. Many major resorts have wedding chapels, wedding coordinators, and other such resources to help plan the wedding of your dreams.
